In 2019 Netflix released one of its biggest true crime docu-series in years: Don’t F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer. In it, a team of online citizen detectives pushed investigators toward finding and arresting Luka Magnotta, a Montreal man who went from torturing and killing animals to eventually killing and dismembering a man named Jun Lin.

Now attendees will get to hear directly from John Green and Deanna Thompson (aka “Baudi Moovan”), two of the key online sleuths behind the hunt for Magnotta. They’ll talk about what viewers did not see in the doc, as well as just how much work goes into cracking open a case like this. They’ll also touch on the premise behind their overall mission: those who torture animals are very likely to eventually move up to killing humans. (This premise will be explored more deeply in another session: “Animal Beta Project”).

Attendees will have an opportunity for Q&A and to find out how they can participate more actively in future citizen-based investigations.
