Kerri Rawson’s all-American life was shattered 16 years ago when the
FBI arrested her father, Dennis Rader, and accused him of being BTK, the elusive “Bind, Torture, Kill” serial killer.
Rader, who’d been taunting law enforcement since killing four members of the Otero family in 1974, had been living a double-life: charming, churchgoing husband and father on the one hand, and sadistic serial killer when no one was watching.
The incomprehensible realization that someone you love and trust could be this violent person (Rader told investigators: “I’ve raised kids, I had a wife, [was] president of the church, been in Scouts. But, yeah, I have a mean streak in me…it occasionally flares up, takes control”) would be too much for most people to take, but Kerri has fought her way back—
writing books, speaking, and becoming a mother herself.
Now, in this emotional session, HLN’s Susan Hendricks will take attendees up close and personal with Rawson as she shares how she picked up the pieces after the FBI knocked on her door that day, and how she is now making a difference for good—including helping to advance knowledge in the fields of victimology and criminology.
